Shot at the Mummers Day Parade.
Every year I see the mummer roadies of the string bands in the parade. They are young and old and in between but mostly young. They don't get enough credit. They are not in the limelight. They are good kids who participate with the families and neighbors in what is a year long process that leads up to a 3-4 minute performance in front of the judges' stand at city hall. The string bands don't win a lot of money should they get first prize, just bragging rights. They get no where near what it costs for the costumes and any other of the facets of their production. And if you are not in the string band, you are unheralded but still you push giant props walking all the way up Broad Street from South Philly to City Hall for the show. Good kids carrying on a tradition and not getting into to trouble or being self centered little wankers (I watch far to much Brit TV on You Tube!) Give them a round of applause, if you please.
