After having had so much fun shooting for the Wild Bird challenge, and given the number of bird shots in my portfolio, I decided to spend another week pointing the camera at birds. This shot is of a Downy Woodpecker female, one of 3 who come to visit every day (and occasionally have little spats with each other).
I have a shot of the rather shy Redbellied Woodpecker in the neighborhood in a really cute pose, but a touch of something off in the focus, so I'm going with my next favorite shot. Nice light and detail; they matter!
PP - qtpfsgui (pregamma 0.697, mantiuk method, contrast mapping 0.1, saturation factor 1.126, detail factor 1), vignette on tonemapped version to blur background, merged with original at 20% transparency, white balance, increased saturation and contrast, dodged/burnt some, cloned a little feather texture on her upper chest, gradient filter on upper right to make light even more dramatic, shifted yellow/green redder to make the tree stand out more, cloned out a few bright spots, desaturated cyanish highlights, resized, sharpened, added border.
