Challenge: Best of 2009 (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Canon EOS-40D
Lens: Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
Location: Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, Scotland
Date: Jun 7, 2009
Aperture: 16
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/4 sec
Galleries: Landscape, Nature
Date Uploaded: Jan 17, 2010

Tonemapped in photomatix then adjusted WB tint towards green, and adjusted the recovery slider in LightRoom.

The reflection was the first to catch my eye but was in need of foreground interest so included the tree. I included the forest for depth in the image (and I liked the lighting over there).

I think the tree, because of its prominence in the foreground would overpower the image if the image were cropped just above the shoreline including just the base of the trees.

This is a really nice image but it seems just a bit flat. Maybe a contrast boost. Just my opinion.

I feel just focusing more on the reflection of the trees in the background , converting to a suitable duotone and loosing the foreground subject would create a better image that would suit your title better. 5

a serene location indeed - very peaceful and inviting

i wonder if the white balance is a bit off, the image seems to have too much yellow tint throughout

IMO this needs to have a good strong pass of USM to bring out the details in the pine tree. Such a lovely location

The idea is good but I think the composition doesn't allow the eye to really settle

I love what you have done here and this is extremely difficult to isolate this tree like you have here. The pic is not sharp though and feel lighting could be better. I would play around with angles and this is an opportunity that could be used more. To get the right light you need time and patience and time. Its worthwile to do that if you live close by. This has winner written all over it with different comps and lighting. You have the location and the setting. Use it now. 6
