Best ofs are interesting because it shows what you liked. I've been looking at this one for a while. I like your processing with the colors looking muted and kodachrome. However, I'm asking myself what the "substance" of the shot is (since that word is being thrown around in the forums). I'm not sure I come up with it. I do like the geometry of the vertical motifs, but beyond that, is there something "to be seen" in the shot? I'm not sure. |

Sorry you missed the 6+. I did my part with an 8. This is quite intriguing, wonderfully well-seen, terrific reversal of visual planes. |

GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
This was a tough competition. That's the only reason I can think of for your image not receiving the "6" or better that it deserved. (I gave it a 7 in competition)
Your use of light and dark, your excellent composition including the placement of the reflections in the water, and overall feel of this image makes it a more than respectable entry in the 'best of...' category.
Keep up the good work.

mmmmmm. Works for me. Interesting take and love what you did/well seen. Looks like old dirty city/busy and the only thing clean is the reflection of it. Am I getting to philisophical...maybe..but then I blame the pic for it 7 |

What a great job of turning an alley shot into something great. |

Then one night in desperation
a young man breaks away
He buys a gun, steals a car,
tries to run, but he don't get far
And his mama cries
As a crowd gathers 'round an angry young man
face down on the street with a gun in his hand
In the ghetto
As her young man dies,
on a cold and gray Chicago mornin',
another little baby child is born
In the ghetto |

I like the reflection but the rest of the photo seems bland and more like a snap shot. I think this would be better with a crop that isolated the two puddles. imho. |

Maybe cropping the top part out and isolating the reflection would have helped. I'm not sure. I like what you were after though. |

i like this image, but i think it would be a lot better with a tighter crop, eliminating the top fourth/fifth of the image or so (at least to occlude the truck). the vanishing point in the street makes the shape of the puddles look like a tall building, and then you see the reflection of buildings moving in the opposite direction - a jarring and cool effect i think works better without seeing the street or the white truck parked in the alley. |

Cool capture. I would have cropped it right at the base of the yellow bollard. |

Interesting piece of street photography, I often go looking for stuff like this after it rains (or sometimes during).
For me the top of the shot is a little low, I would like to see a bit more of the building we are seeing the reflection of, so that it would be like one big continued line from reflection into actual building. |

Good one, not trying to show it twice, using the reflection to show that can't be seen at the top. I like it! |

This would be perfect if you were to crop the top off, from the van up. |
