In order to make a good selective desat photo, you need to start with a good shot to make b/w. To make a good b/w shot you need to start with a shot that is exposed for good highlights. In this example your highlights are way blown out ruining the effect that you are trying to achieve.

Good idea but I wouldn't have focused on the whole plant. Maybe just a section of it. Can't really see the details of your selection |

Right idea but too much clutter around the bush. Keep is simple and don't try to include too much. |

In natural color, I bet this is a beautiful photo, but the flowers are just too small and lack detail to make a real impact in this challenge. The desat itself is OK - I don't know which technique you used - but it's just lacking that "wow" factor. |
