It isn't the "Eye Candy" that people look for normally in here. It isn't pretty. It's a message that I was trying to portray in this shot. Will the voters see it or will they be repulsed and head for the Eye Candy pieces? Hmmmm...

One commenter asks why...what happened to her and states that it tells some of the story but, not the whole. I hoped to have the viewer use their imagination...look into her eye and expression...what do YOU think has happened to her? It's up to each viewer's interpretation. Spelling something out would ruin it and inevitably, there'd be the opposite comment of needing to have left it to the imagination. :)

My score is not wonderful but, I'm loving the most important thing (for me anyway)...those who are "getting" what I was trying to portray with this shot. It's making me very happy! :)

I'm smiling here at a comment about this photo being "contrived". What are most photos with models in this site if not contrived? We set up models or entire sets to portray a certain feel or emotion or whatever else we are trying to portray in our shots. How is that not also contrived? :) We get our kids to pose in certain shots, we put ourselves in "costume" and poses and try to portray something with it. Does that mean all posed for shots are "contrived"? YES! So, why pick on this one? :)

A number of the comments thus far have pertained to the processing being "harsh" or "fake looking". I recoginize that not everyone likes harshness or emphasized detail or shadow and that to some, that very process will appear "fake" but, I wasn't looking at this shot as "realism". I was attempting to portray an emotion....a point, a meaning behind this photograph. I realize that for some viewers, "realism" is their tastes and and photography should appear as it was taken or slightly enhanced and anything outside of those boundaries is considered to appear "fake". However, this shot was not intended as pure photography in my original intentions. It was a concept that I was trying to get across as possibly a piece of art rather than pure photography. Some people will appreciate that idea and others won't. That's what made this challenge interesting for me and I'm happy with the interesting comments that it has evoked. A couple of them, I don't find "helpful" but, I respect their points of view on it as they see it. :)
Post Challenge:
Thanks to all for the comments! It seems that even those who "got it" weren't overly impressed by it even though the comments were great and I'm pleased with them. :) Soooo....back to the Eye Candy shots! :) |

I gave this an 8, I think it should have placed much higher then it did. Regardless I still say great shot. |

This is a unique and different theme for you, I never would have guessed this was yours. A very compelling and poignant portrayal, Jaime, and very well done. |

lol so you have a new model now. funny, during voting, I wondered if this was yours. my interpretation was of a homeless person seeking a little time with God. The only thing I would like to have seen different is that she would be holding the rosary as if she were about to pray. To me it looks like she is holding it so you can get it in the shot. The processing works for me! |

I see the picture, I get the message, but for some reason the feeling isn't coming through on this shot. I think it could be a result of the processing, (topaz?), giving the shot a slightly less than real look. |

Interesting take. processing a bit over the top but like the crude/harsh effect generated by this and the lighting. Nice effort. |

Interesting. Not sure I like the smoothness of the skin, too much noise reduction maybe? |

Good but the textures in the skin and hair feel unnatural and flat. |

Gritty and in your face. Nice that you can use the 800 pixels now. That single sharp catch light in the eye is effective. |

Why, what happened to her? You picture tells part of the story, not the whole thing. |
