The photo:

This was taken on the second day of training. We were given this building to ultimately burn to the ground. The first day we lit several small fires and practiced putting them out. The second day (this day) we just burned it to the ground. The owners were making way for new construction. The building in the background was also burned a week later for the same reason.

Nobody was hurt during the burning of these buildings, except an EMT did fall and break his shoulder leaving the fire to go on an ambulance call, but was not injured because of the fire (other than he was watching).

Great capture. Composition is good, but not great. I know it's easy to say but might have been impossible to do at the time, but had you got behind the firefighters, and had them as forground features, this might have rocked my world. What might have been possible would be to darken the dude in the reflectors in the background on the left... very distracting.

Now... please bear with me... I'm revisiting a little comment experiment I conducted in the 2009-03 Free Study... something like K10DGuy's comments, but with a twist... the twist being, the story will move from one photo to another within the challenge... also, I don't select just a few photos I start at the first and end on the last as determined by DPC random order assigned to me, with a single sentence for each photo... should be interesting... and you're photo is the 2nd in the series

What the waves hadn't destroyed during the storm, were destroyed by the fires that followed.
