Regarding the relatively low score, two things strike me:
1. "DOG Street" looks very odd and contrived. Simply calling it "Main Street" or "Shop Window, Main Street" would have helped, and even calling it "Duke Of Gloucester Street" would have been an improvement if you insist on accuracy.
2. The framing on the right side is unfortunate, the way the kid lines up with those details, looks very unnatural, like some sort of odd, super-straight back on the kid.
I think both these things hurt you a little, for what it's worth... |

What a wonderful, serene shot. Don't care about the theme, score, or misconceptions. It's lovely! |

Wendy, I think you got excellent feed back during the challenge. Some people, who are sticklers for the litteral meaning of the challenge title, gave it DNMC. Some people thought it was wonderfully appropriate and very touching, but all seemed to agree it is a very good photo. Don't fret the score, I think the low votes were due to DNMC, which just isn't so. |

This is a great photograph; I like how the boy is lit by light from the window, as he and the giraffe ponder what could have been were it not for the window separating them. However this private, secluded moment doesn't capture the essence of a main road. As others have noted, in a different challenge this would have scored higher. |

Really thought this was one of the best subjects captured in the challenge. The one that told the best story. |

I really don't see a Main Street here, if the Challenge was Things in a Window I would give you a higher score. |

Really nice shot. Just a bit dark on the bottom. |

Is this a street called "Dog Street" - I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt here. Good shot but does it capture the essence of a street? Again I'll give the benefit of the doubt as I can imagine a street with lots of shops like this that kids love to pass by |

There was a toy store near downtown when I was little, with a huge stuffed giraffe. Every time we drove by, I wanted that thing so much. Thanks for the memories. :) |

Adorable. And the picture that touches me most in the challenge. Can't help but give it a 10. |
