 Lovely comments! This did a bit better than I had expected. Certainly it is the Mergansers who bring this home. Don't know the other ducks, whether I saw them properly or whether I can pull them closer from my file....

Some day I too will speak of haiku with confidence.

I guess you know if there were 7 mounds(rocks?) in the middle this poem would be a haiku. It's probably close enough.

Very different, very surrealistic, but I like this. Not sure if it will have general appeal but it deserves a decent score I think.

Mergansers and a heron and ... a pair of ducks, maybe loons? Can't quite make them out. Not a tack sharp detailed scene but very familiar to me. There is always a branch or something where I don't want it and I get all perfectionist and clone it out. This is so much more real. I find myself liking the subtle framing and main diagonal line of the branch.
