This shot was created during a live show. Thanks to Todd, for inviting me down. It was a blast! For this shot, I set a speedlight in manual mode, hand held. The camera was handheld also and set for 5 seconds of exposure. Starting the exposure a flash would be popped. Recording the record and turntable. I would then pan the camera to the dj. Popping a flash to overlap the two images. Lights from the turntable became light streaks. You do have to play around and experiment. Which is a lot of the fun!

Image - Lowered exposure slightly, increased black slightly, reduced highlights, raised sharpness, cropped and resized for web in iphoto.

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: Effective environmental portrait which captures the essence of the art - makes you look into the image.

Critical stuff: I think the overall luminosity level of image around the edges is problematical - I think I'd have taken that right down.

Overall: An interesting image offering a welcome diversion from mainstream Free Study offerings.
