This is my mother-in-law's headstone. Kids know her as Granny Gail, although they never knew her. She died too young from ovarian cancer, I believe I was 16 when I first met her. Very sweet woman.

I actually went with the intent of a wide angle vista of this same scene, but I was bit late in catching the good light for the background. So I went with a more intimate scene.

Turned out well IMO, hope Lance likes the image! Granny Gail loved to cycle.

Nice shot and the B&W works excellent. The shadows also cars an almost eery feel to it and your angle is excellent. One of my favorites of the challenge.

Greetings from the Critique Club.

First impressions are of the dramatic feel to this shot.

Technically this shot is done well. The lighting is dramatic, the B&W conversion is good.

Artistically I feel this has a strong message but the hat spoils it. Yes I know the Lance Armstrong thing but I still thing the hat appears foreign to the scene - it's not natural. There are some shadows (from other headstones perhaps) that intrude on the scene - I wonder if include the base of them in the background would have added context to the shadows and not left us wondering?

In summary this is a good shot but it's lack of strong relevance to the topic held it back.

Feel free to PM me if you have any queries.

Amazing how one simple object can tell such a sad tale... 8

Very strong image. I wonder if a desat would have worked better than total b/w? Hmmm.
