I wanted to call this photo: End of a Resolution, since this marks the end of my New Year's Resolution, where I said I would not take any more colourful sunsets. Oh well. Life goes on...
Taken on my way back from the Ormstown fair, with the whole family in the car. I spotted this sunset shinning over the river, and had to double back and take a few shots. My wife and kids thought I was crazy, as I jumped the guard rail and trudged through the long grass on the side of the highway, in order to get a slightly less obstructed view.
Shot in JPEG mode (unfortunately) using my 28-105mm @ 28mm, handheld.
In PS7: Used a technique I learned on Luminous Landscape to create a blended exposure. The only difference is I used only one image. Here's how: Created 2nd layer. Darkened the 2nd layer (using levels) to bring out the colours and detail in the sky. Created a mask on the 2nd layer using the lighter under-layer (as described here). Flattened and saved as Tiff to send it to NeatImage to clean it up a little. Back to PS7 for some more slight levels, crop, saturation, resize, USM, and border. Also cleaned up a little funny reflection in the water using the healing brush tool. A little burning in the blue portion of the sky, and a little desaturation (using the sponge tool) to remove some greenish colours in the sky.

| Gorgeous colours, lovely reflection. However, it looks like your horizon is rotated. Maybe that's just an illusion, but it's not enough to mark you down much. 7. |

| Wonderful colors and nice silhouette of the treeline. It's a bit centered - but that seems to work just fine for this scene. |

| Very stunning sky colors here. Nicely captured, but a bit on the boring side. I'm not sure what I would do differently. I guess it would depend on what's available. Maybe focus more on one thing instead of the whole line of dark trees? In anycase, it looks like you got to enjoy a great sunset. |

| Wonderful colorful sky and reflection. I'd just love to see something in the foreground to set this off, a boat with a fisherman, some ducks... to give the forground a focal point. But you can't control what's there when you are taking a picture and this is a gorgeous sunset. |
