Magnificent!! What an absolutely breathtaking scene. This is a blue any time of the day. I did not vote on this but this is special. |

I'm not familiar with thor's well....where is it close to?
ETA: just saw your post :) Been through that area many times and had never heard of thor's well. Maybe I'll put that on my list when I head up there this summer.

Hi everyone.
I forgot how to post additional information in the Photographers Comments section, so let me use this post to say thanks for the kind comments and really generous votes.
Some of you folks asked about the location of this spot. It's at a place called Cape Perpetua on the Central Oregon Coast. It's an amazing spot, but one that is fickle to photograph. This was my 6th trip there, and the first time I've had a shot I thought was worth keeping. If you end up going to see this for yourself, and I highly recommend you do if you are near the area, please keep in mind that it was DEAD CALM seas this day. Usually, you would not want to be anywhere NEAR where I was standing for this shot. The waves on a normal day would absolutely suck you into this hole, and I'm not at all sure that it would be possible to get out.
Paul, thanks for the nice comment. As far as the difference between the two, it's the size thing. I actually just saved the same TIFF file twice, once for DP and once for 1x. The only difference was the size of the image and file. It IS interesting to see that there actually is a pretty big difference, but I agree with what you are saying.

Congrats on you HM! This sure is an impressive shot and it must be even more impressive in real life. I can almost hear those waves crashing. Thanks for the PP info too. |

Very nicely done! Love the rays of light from the sun and the palpable sense of movement of the water into the abyss. |

I saw this on 1x Miles, it is a staggering scene. I'm looking at both versions as I type this and have to say that I think the DPC version doesn't quite measure up. I don't think it's just size either, the deeper coloration and higher sharpness of the 1x version are superior. I wonder if you didn't something different in your edit or we are just seeing the difference between a 300K and a 2Mb file size limit.
Having said all that - this is still a superb image and one that I anticipate will make the front page. |

Nice job on the dynamic range. This was a difficult capture. Looks like a Miles Morgan original. Love your work! |

Woah! I can't believe this thing really exists. I can't tell if it's a mile across or a tidepool. Very neat photo photo. Well chosen shutter speed to capture the movement of the water into the well. |

That looks really cool. Looking forward to finding out where this is, and then making some travel plans. Wonder where the water goes? |
