Greetings from the Critique Club!
Ouch, last place!?? I think that's a little bit harsh. You received some helpful comments during voting and I have to agree with them. It may be out of focus or just soft. That combined with the far away bird that is facing away from the viewer really seemed to hurt you with the voters. One thing that I don't really know what it is but it detracts from your image is the black dots that are everywhere except for the sky and the white on the bird. I guess it's not noise since you only used ISO 400. It might be due to the cropping but I really have no idea :S. Congratulations on the brown ribbon and good luck on your future challenge entries!

Congrats on your first ribbon! Well, yes, it's the brown, but that is still an (arguable) achievement around here. No place to go but up, right? |

Ooh, a Pileated! I love seeing those guys. Looks like this one was far away (typical) and you had to crop a lot ... ended up kind of speckly. |

Sorry, but this is not coming off very well for me. Heavy backlighting, a very soft appearance, and and off looking splotchy pattern on the tree are the main issues. To be fair, birds are difficult subjects and I don't have many good bird shots of my own. |

Nice shot. Would be really good if the focus were better and the shadows opened up a bit. |
