"Errors, like straws, upon the surface flow: He who would search for pearls must dive below" - John Dryden
With photographs, we should all strive to be pearl divers...I think that's the real purpose of this Fine Art challenge. We should learn how to look longer, see beyond the surface, and appreciate.

about the photo:
Did you know that rapids in a small stream is called a "riffle"? I learned a new word today. Consider this image a riff on a riffle - a split-second shot of clear stream water rolling and spilling over a rocky stream bed.
At the time I took this image, I was trying for shots that might, after conversion to b&w in post-processing, resemble a bromoil print. To that end I was using my soft focus lens and ratcheting the ISO to its uppermost limit, to infuse the result with as much noise as I could muster, to hopefully simulate the graininess of a bromoil. I did get the texture and softness I was looking for, although I wouldn't say the method works well for all images.
The image is at its best full-size - it doesn't weather compression well at 800px - not horrible, but definitely has lesser impact than full-size.
Nevertheless, it has a lot of visual interest for me - I see more the more I look at it. Hopefully a few out there will appreciate it. |

Excellent b/w abstract. I'm guessing it's a reflection? Anyway I love it. |

Fabulous. There's nothing for the viewer's eye to latch on to, yet there's so much to see. |

6 - I like this, but does feel unfinished crop/framing wise, especially at the top left. |

Excellent. Really like the B&W with the ripple action against the other textures. Good luck. |

A creek bed, it seems. Abstraction occasionally works as fine art. This is texturally interesting, but not evocative of anything in particular (it doesn't touch me, connect with me). For that reason, I can't personally label this as "fine art". I like looking, though. There are many textural layers that one can see. |

This is exactly the style I thought of when I saw this challenge. It's been perfectly executed, and gets my highest vote. |

An underwater shot? I do not "see" the picture and I'm sure it is good so no vote from me |
