Greetings from the Critique Club!
The message
A nice travel shot of a woman who is certainly enjoying herself. It tells a story and would certainly bring back memories for the subject. It isn't what I would consider a studio portrait.
Creative choices
Pose is nice. Sunglasses are distracting. Composition is good, with the background train well placed. Lighting is harsh.
Technical aspects
Focus is good. Exposure is fine; although parts of the background are burned out, the model's face is exposed well. The digital noise in her face and the train doesn't detract from the photo, but could have been avoided by using a lower ISO. |

Lighting: The lighting on the face is good even if a little dark, but there are many hot spots elsewhere in the image.
Pose: her pose is ok, but the glasses have got to go.
Background: Cluttered and distracting. A shallower DOF would have provided the hint of the train without it overpowering her. |

This looks more candid than a portrait studio to me. |

Not really a studio shot, and the reflection in the sunglasses is distracting. Portraits are all about the eyes... asking your model to take off her glasses would have helped a lot here. Your background is also distracting... a shorter DOF would have been a tremendous help for this image. |

Although this is a nice snapshot of your model, it really doesn't say "studio portrait" to me. The area behind her head and the highlights along her arm are extremely hot, and the reflections in her sunglasses are distracting. I do like the off-center composition and her natural pose. :o) |

An ok snapshot, I suppose... but this doesn't exactly qualify as a studio portrait in my book. |

This looks like a great shot to remember being in a place. Or in other words a tourist shot. However, as a portrait (especially a studio one) it has a couple of issues. The first one is the fact that many parts of it are very blown out. This due to the harsh lighting at the time of day that you shot it. In a studio this wouldn't be an issue as you would have control of the lighting. It is also very busy for a portrait. The background is supposed to lead you back to the person. This background is (almost) more interesting than the true subject of the shot. Lastly, the reflections in her glasses are distracting and do not add to the shot.

This didn't get the best score from me, because I thought the background was distracting. The other minor suggestion I had was just a touch less light on the sleeve and a little more light on the face. Beyond those things, I thought this was excellent. This is one of the entries that made the model seem fun loving and happy. Pose is perfect. Good luck. -7 |

The train in the background is a bit distracting, but it also make the title. Doesn't seem as much of a studio setup as it does a candid. But it still a nice shot. I like the reflections in the sunglasses. |

I like this but the lighting is pretty bright, it appears blown out in a few spots, holding the camera an inch or two lower would have eliminated those whistles growing out of the top of her head, or the clone tool since it's an advanced rules challenge |

Nice smile, pretty woman ... unfortunately, the big white thing in the background is kind of distracting. |

This doesn't look like a formal portrait to me, but a candid snapshot. The reflection in her glases is very distracting. |

It's hard to shoot one like this without catching yourself (or something undesirable) in the reflections in the sunglasses. A nice, relaxed "candid" portrait. |

NIce model - good lighting. Background way too busy. Your reflection in the glasses does not help. What is she growing out of her head? Does not appear bery studio-like. |

good candid apart from a whistle coming out of her head |

Great natural light on the subject. The blown out area behind her head is a bit distracting though. |

Nice but reflections in the glasses is more of a distraction. The room and her sleeve doesn't seem to have much contrast either. |

A flattering photo of the subject, but you'll have a tough time convincing most voters that this is a formal studio shot, particularly with the harsh background light. The bold locomotive is very distracting, and also appears to be holding two mechanical fingers behind her head. |

Too much DOF, she should have no sunglasses on, and some fill-lighting would enhance this image. |

The burnt out white a the top spoils an otherwise good image

sorry but i don't see why this picture is nothing more than a (nice enough) snapshot. I don't see a studio or special attention to lighting. |

This looks like an unplanned image. The lighting is washing out her sleeve and the windowsill, and her face and hair are too dark. The train is distracting, if you had to have it there, it should be out of focus, let her be the subject of the portrait. This could have been a nice shot in controlled conditions, right now it's just a snapshot. |
