from the Critique Club:
This is a very wistful composition and brings out the sweetness of the subject. Of course, major problems with portraits is the haunting shift of color values from face to arms, shoulders and hands. I usually begin by first shooting a white card and then desaturating a bit under. Asking subject to wet lips helps to enhance them and their color.
For the background, I would have pinched the curtain so as not to distract with the vertical fold. Better a curve to add to the ethereal feel.
The only fault I find is in the eyes. because you chose a foreshortening angle big complications arise in touching up the eyes. It is best to leave them alone. If you did not work on them with either the dodge or saturation tools, then you needed a few more takes to get them perfect. The single glitter in the center is to be avoided. best to have two catchlights on the iris. A simple tweak of the lights will have yielded that without hurting your effect.
Otherwise, congratulations on this effort. It was well thought out and you managed to end pretty high. You will only get better. |

Lighting: Very good, but could have used a reflector under her chin and more of a catchlight to highlight those wonderful blue eyes even more.
Pose: Works well for the desired result, but would have been more flattering if taken from a perspective just about eye level.
Background: No complaints; it does not really add anything to the image, but does not detract from it either, and it does have good separation from the similarly colored shirt. |

Nice lighting, background is OK, but I don't think the negative space above adds that much (there's maybe not enough for that) -- I think with this composition/pose you could crop to a square and have a stronger "portrait" photo. |

Very day-dreamy pose. You broke the rule about nostrils though. Lighting does a decent job of giving depth to the shot, but is a touch dull as are the colors. The background is a touch distracting IMHO and could stand to be not lit so much or toned down a bit in PS.

Beautiful. Love the eyes. Would crop a tad from the top, I think. Well done. :o) |

This is very well done, but looks a little contrived for your title (so I ignored your title.) Great job on the eyes, and good placement of background. Finally, I like the way the background matches the shirt. |

Beautiful blue eyes and she looks like she is dreaming. Good one. |

Lovely lighting and skin tones. With the title I'd really like to see a more misty background......? shallower dof |

My favorite thus far (not to worry, I'm close to the end)! Not only did you meet the challenge well, the pose and model are outstanding. I'm drawn right to those blue eyes, which do so well in conveying emotion. Great work. |

I think there is too much space on the top half of the picture. Otherwise, a very nice expression on the girl's face. |

I think this is a great potrait. The focus, lighting and exposure are all well done. However, there is too much space at the top of the photo. If she were better centered, the photo would look much nicer. |

Good job. Would have liked to have seen a better coloured background

Nice eyes, good light. Her nose cuts off her eye a little and there's too much space on the top of the frame, but it's good. |

Very pretty...shadow from arm is a bit distracting. |

I like the shot, but not crazy about the white background. |

Beautiful eyes and face. Not sure I like the angle - but that does make it look more like daydreaming. |

Nice soft lighting, too much empty space above her head, would have cropped it more tightly. |

First thing I noticed is the shadow on her left arm. Good composition though. |

Great color in the eyes and lips.... a little out of focus on her left arm |

Her arm is on the edge of the image, looks like an after-thought. I would like to see this with the hand/arm out of the picture. Good exposure. |

Yep, but maybe a bit over-composed, it doesn't look 100% real... Lighting is a bit harsh (as is my picture) (6) |

Lovely pose and lovely soft lighting. The whites really let the model's stunning eyes stand out beautifully...great job. A little too mujch space at the top in my opinion so only a 9. |

Nice expression on your models face.
Bits of the shot look out of focus.
I like it though
good luck |

Nice lighting and nice expression. I'd crop the top a bit to focus more on the woman. |

I think this could have benefited with a much better pose, as well as better lighting to emilniate the shadows coming from her arm.
But you were able to capture the color of her eyes wonderfully. |

This is my favorite so far. She looks like such a dreamer. I am guessing this will get a ribbon. |

Good focus, light, pose. I do think her eyes are stunning and would of liked her looking more at the camera. Pretty girl and a good relaxed model. Hope this does well. |

Slightly spooky (eyes), but well photographed. Composition certainly draws focus to subject. |
