Dual meaning to the title. To me, it looks as though both humans are telling both dogs to hang on just a moment - one to be put back on the leash, the other for the ball to be thrown. Also, to me, it's just a quiet moment captured in time. To me, all photography is "stopped motion" - we're stopping that one moment in time. There may be similar moments. In the case of inanimate objects, there may be nearly identical moments. But with people, there are only those singular moments. This is one of those.
I fear it will not meet the challenge for many. I went to the dog beach this morning and captured all nature of moving dogs and moving people. I practiced using different focus modes. I forgot to use the shutter priority (I'll do that tomorrow) but I did go out with the intent to work on capturing stopped motion. This shot is my favorite from the morning, and you'll note both dogs are mid-tailwag. I do not apologize for the shot or for entering it. :-)
Shot overexposed by 1/3 stop; processed with a preset in Lightroom (300v2, I think it was), cropped a bit in PS, then resized and saved for web.

And.... not a good idea. But I still like it and I still (in my poor addled warped brain) think it meets the challenge. But voters are never wrong!

Hell, it's not even abstract. |

Fabulous. I think the crop killed this for the blind/unimaginative voters.

An instant in time... stopped. Wait. Next frame. |

Great moment, Deb. I kinda see why it didn't epitomize stop action but it really does when you think about it again. I think people want a faster action to be stopped. HEE HEE I'm such a fan of silhouettes. |

The problem is, even when you're going for DPC friendly, you're still incredibly artistic. I would have zoomed in much closer, gotten the people just on the right, and spot metered it so they weren't so backlit.
But I like yours better! I love the silhouette, I love the "feel" of the moment. The reason it didn't score well, imo, is because people were looking for a more difficult capture. It's not hard to stop the motion of a person bending over. The only stop motion that probably counted was the dog on the right, and 1 out of 4 probably wasn't good enough for most people. The shot is incredible. |

I love this image... your story reflects almost my exact thoughts when I saw it... I'm very newbie here so was quite nervous about voting in the first challenge... based on certain threads, even more so now... reluctant to say anyone DNMC I would definitely NOT say that for this photo... beautifully captured singular moment ~:D |

5.06 ??
Love the picture and the two vignettes of different dogs with different owners. Waves crashing about in the background - Red setter staying still to get it's leash on, Labrador (?) being about as well behaved as mine would be . .
Walkies stopped, waves stopped, dogs stopped, people stopped . . nope - can't see anything 'stopped ' here
:- )
A little ambivalent about the water in the foreground - maybe it adds - maybe it doesn't. Otherwise really nice picture. |

I really like this shot. I like the captured moment, the almost silhouette look, and the toning too. Would only suggest a crop, taking out the piece of reflective wet surface on the bottom of the shot and perhaps a bit off the sides if you want to keep the aspect ratio. |
