Trying some techniques described in the forums. Added a duplicate layer, blurred it alot, then made it about 40% opaque.

My son is in Afghanistan where two more marines were killed this week so I guess that is the thought behind the image.

This is outstanding. The flag just sets it off. Really nice job on the soft focus. Evokes such a peaceful yet sad mood.

Ellen, this is an exceptional photograph. I am sorry to hear about the boys that were killed. :( My prayers continue to be with you and all.

Sorry to all about the gratuitous American Flag. The two kids who were killed were friends of my son from Kilo company 3/6 marines. Purely a personal statement.

This is an exceptional image with loads of impact. Composition is very nice - with the excption that I'd like to see the flag less centered. The flat lighting is exactly right. You should finish way high!

Very solemn scene, excellently done. I think the glow/blur needs to be toned down a bit. Even so, it's a great picture and the bright colors of the flag in the center amidst the greys and greens pulled everything together. Maybe if the borders were thicker, it would nicely frame the whole scene and help carry the attention towards the center.

Interesting treatment. The soft watercolour effect is pleasing, I like the grouping of the stones. My personal feeling is that the front marker being so black sets it apart from the others, rather than it being an integral part of the composition. The oversaturated flag is so out of context with the rest of the treatment it is more of a distraction, to me, than a positive element. Just my opinio, of course. Still, very nicely don.

That flag looks out of place, cause it neither stands out nor is very subtle. Nice composition.

The softening applied to this might be more effective with a shallower depth of field.

Very nice, but that flag is really, really distracting, and you left a lot of blank space above the headstones.

I love the soft focus...I just wish the flag wasn't there.
