The great problem with this photo is the lack of a focal point for the viewer to focus on. Ones eyes seem to just slide off the photo. I don’t know the area but if one of those trees at such interesting angles were used as a focal point—if you had managed to get closer to them and used them in your composition as a prominent feature this photo might have worked better or perhaps the photo taken from low down in the grass on the opposite bank.

Your picture is well exposed with good focus and DOF for a scenic shot. Nice reflections on the water. As you have explained you had a problem with the horizon –it does distract from your shot. Your processing is good and your camera shows good detail .

The title sparks the imagination—and this looks like a great conservation area

For those that said this was tilted, you were correct. A tilt of about 2 deg brings it back. I just missed it during editing.

3 cheers for the voters. I must read this article to see where this reserve is and go visit it. I't a beautiful place. I can tell from the photo. Good picture - makes me want to read the article. Great job. PTL9

I think a tighter crop would have helped eliminate the white sky, which isn't detracting, but really doesn't add anything to the picture, either, in my opinion. Also, it seems to be tilted some, but I know that can happen with water/landscapes because of the direction of the opposing shore line. The exposure/lighting and colors are good. Looks like a good place to go bass fishing! karmat

Some animal life would have really helped this, even though it might have required tremendous patience. Maybe a heron. Maybe even some hunters or something. 5 nards656

Too late. The water is draining off the right hand side of your photo.

Great colors in this photo. Without the title it could be a lot of things...a flood, a duck pond (or muck pond! ha ha). I wish there was something in the photo that anchored it -- like some wildlife or a boat -- nothing big, but just somewhere for the viewer's eye to zip to. muckpond

Decent photo.

Horizon appears to be slanting to the right... Otherwise a nice landscape.

Could do with a bit of rotating to level out the horizon. Good colours though

I hope the title is true, that looks like a lovely area. The colours are fantastic, great mix of blues & browns, but the horizon isn't horizontal, which is slightly off putting.

IMO the relationship between the title and picture are key elements in this challenge. Nice jopb.

Very clever, and a nice pic... but not exactly something I would put on the front page. Good try though! 7 :-)
