Unfortunately there was a bug harmed in the making of this photo. He was running all over the place, so I put him in the freezer for just a second to chill him out while I adjusted the "balloons". Well, time flies when you're adjusting "balloons" apparently, and he came out with little ice sparkles on him. He hasn't woke back up yet, and I feel awful. I promised him I'd put him right back! :(

50mm reversed with 20mm extension tube - SB-900 pointed at the ceiling.

Lightroom
Preset: BoonDoggle 2 (Wonderland pack)

Photoshop
Healed out a couple hairs on the "balloons"
Cloned/healed a weird spot in the upper middle that looked like a face staring at you
Used Selective Color to deepen the red of the balloons
Some Hue/Saturation adjustments
Topaz Denoise
Burned and dodged a bit of everywhere
Gradient tool from the sides and corners to vignette
Levels adjustment
Brightness/Contrast adjustment

Oh heck, I think his death was valiant. How many great ones have already died of balloons? I feel the ghosts of that silly Hindenburg envying the swift mercy of death by chill. Before hitting the ground.

So now he's an ice-opod? ;-)

Great bug macro, but I'm doubting those are balloons in the background.

Awesome shot, but I do not think it really pertains to the challenge as well as most other entries. 6

Poor little thing. Did you know that these insects are not actually insects, but are terrestrial crustaceans? Your DPC fun fact for the day. Vote of 6.
