Challenge: Black and White Landscape (Basic Editing*)
Collection: 2010
Camera: Canon EOS-50D
Lens: Tamron SP AF 10-24mm F3.5-4.5 Di II LD for Canon
Location: Grapevine, Texas
Date: Apr 25, 2010
Aperture: F7.1
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/1250
Galleries: Landscape, Black and White
Date Uploaded: Apr 25, 2010

The East shore of Lake Grapevine is highly eroded in a quite dramatic manner. In another area, it looks like cliffs, though they are only 10-15 feet high. My original intention was to shoot these cliffs, but the lake was too high and there was no beachfront below them, as there was when shot this photo a year ago.

Anticipated critiques:
-Slight banding in sky

Post-challenge notes:
A bit disappointed in the performance of this one. Feedback from my team led me to believe I had a strong entry. Just goes to show you can never predict broad appeal.

This got a seven from me. I liked the use of black and white to really give umph to the strong forms and textures here.

Focus seems strong in the foreground but a bit soft at the trees. Of course it could be that my old eyesight is failing, too. Nice composition.

Interesting tree. Not so interesting foreground. IMNSHO, you could cut out the foreground and have a squareish format, concentrating on the tree.

Great location.

I think a lower POV would have been more dramatic.

I think I would have like this composition better if it had stuck closer to the rule of thirds.
