The horse is a white horse so I don't think it is overexposed at all.

I wanted a lower angle, I took one of a brown horse lower which worked better but the white horse helps the tones so much more ... this horse didn't like me getting too close and I didn't want to keep chasing it so I couldn't get a low angle on it

I agree it would be better with more landscape ... unfortunately the sun was strong to I had to keep it behind me and shoot uphill

for me...not enough "scape" in this...the subject is more the horse than the land...JMO

Excellent exposure and tonal range for this B&W photo. The horse adds interest to the foreground, but for me this is missing something vital to a landscape and that is midground and background layers. I suppose the sky acts as background here... but there is nothing to give you that image of a vast expanse of land or of the scape of the earth.

I think this would have worked better if the shot had been taken at a lower angle, so that the horse bridged the transition from brush to sky.
