the far peaks are about 10-11,000 feet, the clouds are at about 3500-4000 ft., I was standing at approx. 5000 ft.

I find it easy to enjoy the strong contrast between the dark "islands" in clouds while there is still just a hint of detail in the more distant hills.

Great clouds and mountains -- reminds me of a Japanese painting. IMNSHO that big, blank sky doesn't add to the shot -- I'd crop a lot of it out and concentrate on the different tones in the mountains which ad a very interesting diagonal to the composition.
