Taken using the baseball cap method for long exposures with remote shutter release and a tripod. With shutter speed set to Bulb mode, I focused on the geranium, opened the shutter, and allowed a quick moment before covering the lens with my hat. I then swiveled the camera on the tripod to face the wooden supports of my balcony rail, removed the hat, and quickly released the shutter. The resulting photo had a total exposure time of 6 seconds, during which the lens was covered for approximately 5 seconds, with about just over half a second allotted to the unobstructed view beforehand and just under half a second after. Where the second part of the exposure contained a wooden post, the original image retained almost full opacity. Where there was no obstruction blocking the backlit tree beyond the balcony, a measure of transparency resulted in the first view, as though looking through a window. Editing was limited to cropping and slight colour correction. |
