I would like to thank everyone for their comments on my photo. To answer some of the 'out of focus', 'too blurry' comments: The shot was taken at a night game, 28 rows up in the stands, full optical zoom, maximum ISO setting, and with a 2 Megapixle camera. I won't even go into timing the shutter lag. All things considered I am very happy with how sharp the picture is.
For the comments on the cropping or framing of the shot: From my position in the stands I was limited to the angle I could take the shot at. To bring the action up as close as possible I set the crop to the maximum dimensions the challenge allows. I also wanted to keep the perspective of the yard marker on the opposite side of the field to show the down and the position of the ball prior to the snap . Again, for what I had to work with I'm happy with how the picture turned out.
Thanks again for all the comments. |

Composition- Content I think that the composition is pretty good, getting the crowd and the players into the shot adds interest. However, i think cropping off some of the foreground would have brought us closer to the action. Zooming right into the players would also have been interesting.
Background Overall, I like your decision to include the crowd, however the lack of Depth of Field throws them out of focus, which would have been OK if the players had been in focus!
Camera Work-Technical The shutter speed was a bit slow here and so didnt stop the action, I think this kind of picture needs good sharp focus. Try setting faster shutter speed, also using a monpod could have helped with camera shake, I have the same problem with my camera, especially with a long zoom.
Digital Processing Colours are nice and bright, especially the reds.
My opinion I am not a football fan, so on a personal level, it doesn`t hit me. However, I think you chose a great topic for the challenge and one which does interest many people, so you would reach a big audience with this picture. I am sure you can see for yourself from the comments, what everyone is saying about shutter speed, however you have caught motion well and something along these lines could be good for the motion theme! Good Luck and I hope that this helps! |

This is an excellent subject and an excellent moment to capture for the challenge. The focus is just a little off, and obviously a slightly faster shutter speed would have been ideal. Good job. |

A bit blurry for an action sports shot. Pushing it. |

Great seats buddy!! Nothing is truly in focus in this frame which is really a shame. It is a great op for a pic being on the goalline and all and taken from pretty close. I don't know if all the zoom had a hand in making this a blurry shot, but something did and its unfortunate. I couldn't say enough about the composition of his pic. In crisp focus, prolly a 9 minimum. - Inspzil |

Excellent shot. Looks like you've caught the ball about an inch from the goal line. A tighter crop would have been interesting to see too. Well done. |

nice timing. too bad that guy with the picture of the steelers game had to raise the bar so freakin' high for any other football pictures. you really did get the moment of truth though. maybe would've been better with some more of the crowd and less of the foreground. |

I like football. And this is good football. Excellent timing, but the blur ruins it a little. Good sports PJ would be really sharp. Of course, the photog would be on the sidelines with a f1.8 lens and $7000 worth of Nikon, so I don't mean to be too hard on you. I would like a tighter crop too, I think. 6 nards656 |

OH, the silly games men play. I hope they do something productive on their time off. Looks like you got some camera shake going on...not enough light, I guess. Try holding your breath and stopping your heart for a couple seconds...always works for me. :-) |

Good action shot. A little out of focus. Very difficult with all the movement. Nice try. |

I would've zoomed a little more closer and with a faster shutter speed. |

I certainly can't complain about the subject since mine is also a touchdown-related shot :) Would have been nice a little closer up and without as much grain, but these are hard ones to take from the stands. Good job! -- alansfreed PS -- I hope you were rooting for Oklahoma since they won this game 60-15 over Texas Tech! |

Not sharp enough for a sports photo (the main subject is blurred) and a bit far away from the action. |

Neat shot... I wish it wouldn't have caught as much motion blur as it did... or maybe a tighter verticaly crop would help draw me straight to the subject? - JB |

Good sports action shot. A faster shutter speed would have gotten better clarity and would have frozen the action a little better....in my humble opinion. |

Nice action shot, just wish the camera was up a bit more. I think we see a bit too much field at the bottom. The colors and the people at the top would of been more interesting in the photo. I know the focus is the players, but we see way too much field IMHO. The color, light and focus is good. Also this is right on topic. Sports reporter. Job well done. Justine |

I assume that's #22 going over the top? I wish it could've been frozen a little bit more with a sacrifice on overall exposure.. |

A little out of focus. Good composition. The crowd on the sidelines add to. Good placement and crop. Good shot, just needs sharper focus. PTL6 |

In sports you should catch the action, and a photojournalismmust is to always be able to see the ball... plus it's very blurry. Good thinking though for the challenge! |
