Challenge: The Color Purple (Advanced Editing II)

Aperture: F/22
ISO: 800
Shutter: 1/500

For me, getting this shot was very difficult. The lighting has to be just right, the drip has to be just perfect, and the hand-eye coordination better be up to par. I specifically made this shot with "purple" in mind. I happened to have a dish that had purple flower thingies on the bottom. These made for some neat effects....

Post-Processing: Cropping, Straightening, Levels, some Contrast, some Saturation, Neat Image, and USM. That's it.

Lens: Sigma 105mm Macro F/2.8 D
Aperture: F/22

Flash: On Board
White Balance: Flash

Purple grace should have one the category. I didn't vote and i know I am responding late, but this photo is beautiful. Way better than the winner!

Mark, this is incredible. You're right--these water drop shots are difficult to get right in the first place, and yours is so very lovely to boot!

this is a gr8 photo congrats on ur ribbon :)

Hi Mark,

I see the voters agreed with my vote - a well-earned 10!

This is an awesome shot, and so happy it made to the top 3.

I think if I had released earlier this was a water drop I would have marked it higher. I assumed it was glass that you could position the lighting just so to get this effect. I do agree these seems as much about gold as purple but nice for either color.

I feel good all three ribbons in this challenge, I gave a 10. That is because anyone of them could have won the challenge. gr8 work.

One of my top five, even though it's "about" gold at least as much as purple. I like the touch of sparkle on the drop the best. You could have color shifted the yellow to make this REALLY purple!

just what can i say apart from wow 10 - a blue ribbon I hope

Not so original but nicely done. -8

Wow - a lot of people have done water droplet shots, but this one is truly exceptional. Beautiful choice of colors and great lighting. Just a tiny bit of noise and a few specks here and there, but altogether an amazing photo.

Beautiful, my favourite for the challenge. The colours really make this. 9

Ah - this is a great capture of a very difficult shot. Your selection of colors is superb. The star flare on the top of the drop is a magical addition. There are two things that may bring your score down a bit: a) It's been done many time before (but this is one of the best I've seen.) and b) The border doesn't help for me. Great job....

This scores high, but..............................

The crop seems tight. The light falls off in the middle. I don't care much for the white border.

Very well done however. Cheers

very well done ... the bright spot is just a touch too bright ... 9

This is Beautiful. I'd prefer to see more purple than gold, but technically speaking it is very well executed.
07/08/2004 08:40:44 PM
This is simply one of the best "drop" shots I have ever seen.
The choice in colors was superb., and the stunning clarity is right where it needs to be.
My favorite of this challenge (( 10 ))

Bravo!

Beautiful!10
07/06/2004 08:25:53 PM
Wow!! How DID you do that?!!
07/06/2004 02:06:08 PM
Dramatic use of color takes this drop picture out of the "another drop" category into the "Wow!" category. The out of focus water around and behind has a silky feel to it giving an elegance to the overall image. I gave this one a 10.

beautiful, although perhaps not quite purple enough for my taste although I do love the capture of the splash - its crystal :)

Oh my! How wonderfully sharp and contrasted this image is! Definitely a notch or three above the other entries. Ribbon and printmaterial ;)

amazing!

Ah, looks alot alike to my extraordinary picture, well composed (although it would alo be nice on RoT), perfect clarity/focus. Although a bit cliche for DPChallenge (just did one myself) it is still beatifully done. How many outtakes did you have?
