I know many will dock this because of it being motion blur and not so much "missed focus" but I will say that even though it is motion blur it is also still missed focus because I would not have chosen this photo for anything since the only focus is on the word Lite. There were a few from this series that had more of the car in focus and some that had mostly the driver in focus.

Oh well I hope it doesn't get knocked down too much for it.

A couple of comments so far think I used a lens baby. I didn't. It was simply a slow shutter (1/20) and I took the shot standing at turn 3 so the car is coming toward and then going away from me at the same time that it is speeding by.

editing was only a few minor adjustments in lightroom then adding a little border to the top and bottom in CS3.

you can fix this if you use a faster shutter speed...;-)

not sure that the concept of "missed focus" works here

I think this image really hits the mark for "missed focus." Even the thumb conveys motion and speed. Love the mostly blurred parts of the car along with the blur of the infield and the track. The tiny bit of focused car gives me the illusion that the car was going so fast that's all my mind could process (if that makes sense.) Curious to find out how you achieved this. I almost want to guess that this was a prefocused lensbaby lens and panned... However it was done, great shot.
