My 50mm macro lens can get much closer than my 28-80mm lens in macro mode. This probably makes the movement from my pulse even greater, and harder to time to get a sharp image. I guess that's where a tripod comes in handy - but I don't have one that can get so close to the ground. ;-Þ

This spider (and ant) didn't move the whole time I was there, at the flower bed outside the 8th graders' classrooms.

This is awesome! JUst a spectacular capture of this moment. The DOF is fine but I always look for a bit more in focus. The macro lenses make that pretty tough!

Classic nature shot. I don't mind the DOF; there's only so much of a spider I want to see, anyway ;-)

It makes it easier David if you rock backwards and forwards just slightly and rattle off a whole heap of shots and then pick the best of them to process. It's really good if the subject doesn't move because you can then focus stack them to get the whole subject sharp. In this case possibly both spider and ant and maybe a bit more of the flower.
