Photograph Information Photographer's Comments
Challenge: Double Take III (Basic Editing)
Camera: Canon EOS-7D
Lens: Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM
Date: Jun 7, 2010
Aperture: 11
ISO: 640
Shutter: 1/10
Galleries: Macro, Water
Date Uploaded: Jun 8, 2010

I consider myself lucky because within only 120 shots, I got this one. The failed shots are like this
or even worse.

With EOS 7D's wireless ETTL, I was thrilled to test drive ETTL with Canon 550EX for this scene, but end up not worked right, because it's not fast enough to freeze the top portion of the crown. I went back to my 20-year old auto flash for this.

Thank you very much for the comments and votes!

What are you dropping the water into and what do you use as a background?

Thanks, Adam :)

A gel or filter for flash unit. A glass for surface.

Ok, but now you have me curious -- I just got a 580, as well, and was thinking I should try water drops again now that I have it. I know you can increase the sync speed on the flash, did you try that and it still didn't work?

Thanks!

Since flash is the only light source, the shutter speed doesn't matter that much. As you can see my shutter speed for this was very slow but the flash froze the motion. I didn't try high speed sync, I guess it won't help.
My old fashion flash is a 20 year old unit, there was no TTL flash at that time I think.

The liquids in the dripper and tank were the same - tap water mix jet dry.

Tired of water drops but that won't stop me from giving you a TEN!

If this doesn't win, I'll eat my lens cap between two slices of bread.
