Light, focus, and depth of field are all just perfect in this photo.
We have very similar bugs here. They are attracted to certain sounds, like compressed air discharging through a blow gun, like the ones used to clean and dry machine parts. |

Yeah, this guy really is delightfully unattractive. What makes him interesting to me is that his wings almost look like they're on upside down. Nice crisp capture, and it looks like you did a good job of compensating for the bright flowers and preventing them from letting the rest of the image get underexposed. |

I don't know what it is but it is interesting. Is it just me or do his wings look sort of inverted with that strong edge at the bottom and the more delicate part up towards the center of his body? (I am pretty ignorant about bugs!) |

Something in the cicada family? Not as big and ugly ...er, interesting ... as most cicadas but the shape looks similar.
