Thanks for the helpful comments and the fantastic score!!! Thanks for the HM! I'm so pleased because I really liked the way this image turned out.
I got the "swooshing water onto the bottle" idea within seconds of reading the challenge description (I bet that surprises you ;-))
So, bought my first bottle of Absolut Vodka and tried for two whole evenings to get the shot right - no chance! Every time I got the lighting right, throwing the water onto the bottle from a small glass seemed (for some reason) to change everything lightwise and I had to start moving my flashes around... it was driving me nuts. Then the water problem. Every time I swooshed the water onto the bottle, checked the result and trashed the image (and believe me, I trashed most of them ;-) I had to clean up the whote scenario plus the bottle which meant the bottle had to be placed in exactly the same spot or the lighting wasn't right.
On the second night, many, many images later I gave up. Thought to myself "you don't HAVE to enter the challenge" and left it at that.
On the Sunday afternoon Germany was playing against England in the World Cup. My husband was so nervous, he was slowly but surely driving me nuts ;-) so I thought to myself I'll give the photo another, last try - anything to take my mind and my ears off the game and my husband.
It was very nearly another wasted photo session but I kept saying to myself "just one more try" and, lo and behold, I got the best shot on the very last "just one more try" just as the game ended ;-)

So, for Iain Covert_Oddity Yes, there was indeed a lot of cleaning up and starting again. My challenge to myself was to get a good shot without a single drop of water on the glass the bottle's sitting on.

For Jamie J-Me Sorry you're "splash fatigued" but many thanks for being honest about it and taking the time to comment.

For Richard Yanko Shooting the water from behind just didn't occur to me - maybe next time (oops, sorry Jamie ;-)

I'm surprised to see that 1/125 is fast enough to freeze the water this effectively. Learning here, that's what I'm doing...

I used a small glass tumbler to throw the water onto the bottle.

Hi Lev, if I stand up on my office chair and look down at the image with my head at an angle of 38,7° I can (very faintly) see the cap ;-)

Irene, congrats on another great shot, and Top 5! The only thing which I would add is some light on the cap, it mysteriously disappeared here :)

After this shoot I had the cleanest kitchen floor in the history of the world ;-) but oh, my camera and my poor, poor lens....

Congrats on 4th place.. it's amazing the way you get these shots to turn out.. I would just ruin my floor, splash my camera and quit! Thanks too for always posting the details in case I lose my mind and want to try it.

Really nicely shot, lovely lighting, great splash effect and editing. I think I'm just "splash fatigued" as there are so many splash/water droplet shots in DPC challenges that no matter how well shot they are, they eventually become "run of the mill" and it's simply a matter of who did it best. Still a great shot. Just my own personal tastes coming into play. 5
