I wasn't going to enter any challenges this week but got this idea on the way home on the deadline day so I did a quick setup and grabbed a few shots. Man this was a tough self portrait but I really hope the voters enjoy it. This is Entry Number 50 for me. Here is hoping for a decent score.

Thank you all for who left a comment, I am glad I at least managed to find a few people who appreciated the shot.

Hmm. I was holding another lens under my chin but apparently I need to trim my beard.

Whatever, I really do NOT get DPC. How is it that this finished so low? I looked at several of the shots that finished well above mine and I really don't get it. I think I will just disregard challenge descriptions from now on and enter whatever I want and put a title to make it fit. This is getting ridiculous. Sixty votes at a 4 or under? And 27 votes of 1,2 1nd 3. If you voted a 3 or under why don't you let me know what the issue is.

I saw you post this in a thread and figured I'd give you a comment due to your own comments.
I didn't vote here, but if I did, I probably would have voted this somewhat lower, as well. As a general photograph, it is executed well, with a possible exception being the degree to which your bag is obscured. It's like a blackhole. However, if it weren't dark, the photo would look busy. This brings me to the main reason I would vote the way I would- This shot is, by its very nature, extremely unchaotic. It's quite obviously posed with a large number of props in a very controlled environment. Admittedly, there are other shots with various numbers of these elements to them, but you're not moving or doing anything in the shot. It's static. An example of how you could keep your theme and add something more dynamic and chaotic to things would be to make it appear as though you were dropping something. I also think the fact that you're looking directly at the camera really adds to this static feeling- it's a testament to the viewer that things are contrived, that you are aware of them as a subject, and that the viewer is not in fact glimpsing something in action.

Anyway, my point wasn't to be harsh or anything, more just that I can relate to the feeling of "what the hell?" after voting ends, and frustration without an end is simply aimless. ;)

FWIW I thought you nailed this challenge and gave you a 7. I would have scored you higher but I don't believe I should have to compete against someone with so much good gear (just kidding). As for the number of low votes - I'm also dumbfounded!

It is nice to see an image that truly kept with the spirit of the challenge. If you hid the name of the theme to this contest I think most people would of guessed it was a free study. I would feel exactly the same way you do, but know that there are people who appreciated your effort.

Funny. I can see where this would be chaotic.
