Twenty minutes northeast of Cochem, Germany just north of the Mosel river, lies the Burg Eltz, a fairy tale looking castle built in the 11th century. The Burg Eltz is one of a few medieval castles untouched by wars over the centuries. While the hidden location helps, the Eltz family claims the castle went untouched due to their ancestors’ diplomatic neutrality. The Eltz family still retains a couple of rooms in the castle, but chooses to live in nearby Cochem. Unfortunately, the castle was closed for the winter one day before my arrival, so I was unable to see the interior.

A beautiful shot of this castle. One of the most unique that I have seen. Lovely color in the surroundings as well.
