Pretty sure the shot isn't that interesting (and it's too busy), but I did the best I could with it. The real interest comes in the story of getting the shot. I had searched for a week trying to think of something for this challenge. After grocery shopping, I decided to take the long (really long) way home through a very rural area. I came across a rusted wheelbarrow, with weeds grown up over it. I immediately knew that's what I wanted to use. After taking the groceries back to the house, I returned to the area with the wheelbarrow. I even knew the title for the shot, "The Rusted Wheelbarrow - a William Carlos Williams reprise". I pulled to the side of the road, when I noticed a car braking as it passed. I could see the driver was concerned about my presense. I walked to the car and asked the older, African American woman if she lived there. She said she did, so I told her that it may seem like a strange request, but I wondered if she'd mind if I took a few pictures of her wheelbarrow. It was the first time I had asked someone for permission in my limited photography experience, so that aspect was fun. After she said yes, I thanked her and went about taking the shot.
I took 50 shots of the rusted wheelbarrow, trying to avoid the contents of the wheelbarrow, because I didn't feel they added anything to the shot. After finishing, I saw this old plow and decided to take a few shots of it as well. Of course, when I got home and processed the shots, the wheelbarrow shots were awful. There were too many weeds in the way and you really couldn't tell it was a wheelbarrow. So, I ended up with this. Still not a great shot, but it has a little more definition and depth. And the flowers above the plow bring some interest, in my opinion. |
