I was going to try and redo my first entry

But there are no Garden Orb Spiders here this time of year. However, the thought of recreating a shot done by an accomplished DPCer and to try and do it better was more enticing. Bear_Music first entry was the second user I viewed and this was his first challenge entry

Now, I kid you not, when I viewed this shot I was preparing to cook Steak Diane and had these tools and the garlic on my bench. Well, I had to do this after such a coincidence.

Hard to try predict how this may go this is vertually a free study but if I don't do better than Bear_Music score of 4.7885 I would be quite disappointed (no offence Robert :-)

Thanks everyone for the votes and especially the comments (a new PB - yay)

Many comments relfected on the lighting which I spent the most time trying to achieve so I was rapped it was noticed. You see, I don't have any fancy studio lighting but decided to try and use what I could find. I chose a reading lamp and workshop 500 watt light (both tungsten) and make the room as dark as possible (hard with afternoon sun wanting to come through the window behind). The photo below shows the set up. I had less than 30 minutes to set up, take the shot and post process (my wife doesn't like my obsession with DPC and so all is done when 'she who must be obeyed' is out). Anyway, I'm very happy with the result - beaten by Bear himself for a similar shot is fine though I would have loved that 1st 6 (maybe one day).

I'm guessing this is redone by the original photographer - not sure why I think that but I do. This one is soooo much better. I'd given it an 'absolute' 7, now bumping up to 8 now that I see the original.

Another interesting take on the original. I like the dark and moody feel in this one. Lovely light and shadows.

Wow, this is the third time I've seen this image re-done. I guess Bear_Music is well-known around these parts...

I like your version, but one of the other two is better IMHO.

Nice, moody interpretation of the original. A bit of a yellowish/reddish cast on the shot.
