I had to go to Shanghai on business in July. I was lucky enough to get VIP tickets to the Shanghai 2010 Expo which got us entry to the China pavillion without queuing. Well, that may not sound like a big deal, but believe me, it was worth it.

The average number of visitors at the expo is around 470,000 per day. The site is vast. We were there for 6hrs and managed to see only 3 pavilions and we had easy access to all 3.

This picture is a small part of the queue for the China pavilion. Average queuing time was in excess of 6 hrs. In temps of 34-37C and 80-90% humidity I can tell you this was not fun for those folk.

I topazed this a bit

Good job with the processing to really bring out each person so well; impressive queue, I certainly would not have the patience!

I like the guys face in the bottom left corner. He's probably yawning, but it looks like he's screaming, "get me out of here!" And that would summarize my feelings on being there.

Holy Toledo - I couldn't have done that many people. Freaky. And the image is freaky good. Processing is perfect for this.

Holy Moses! Processing is spot on for this bit of sardine-packing insanity.

If I had to stand in that group, I would surely faint from anxiety due to claustrophobia. I love studying each individual face. A guy yawing, a woman grabbing a quick drink from her water bottle, a young woman texting, someone smiling. I like this a lot. It's one to study and see a different face each time.

THAT is a lot of people! They are so orderly in comparison to anything I'd ever see in New York. I hope you enjoyed your visit anyway (must have felt like royalty).

I cannot fathom queuing for ANYTHING for six hours. Well, maybe a personal audience with... hmmm... nope. Cannot even think of anyone I'd queue six hours to meet in person. I like the bit of topaz. :-)

When I saw the thumbnail my first thought went to my visit to Shanghai, in 2007, and the queue at the city's railway station. Blown away to open the pic and find it was taken in Shanghai! Well done with the processing and great capture of the guy in the bottom left yawning!

The Topaz works really well here. The crowd has become a group of discrete individuals.

Yeah, you are right, it was quite terrifying. I am not that keen on crowds and the crush factor inside the pavillion was quite significant.

This is actually quite terrifying... Amazing shot, and I think the topaz brings out the insanity.
