 Shot in Sports Mode. It chose the film and shutter speeds. I got to select the f-stop (5.6). Post processing: auto levels, contrast,color, usm, crop. Some cloning to remove distracting reed shape. Shadows/Highlights, PhotoFilter (dark blue).
This was taken in my miniscule backyard. A bank of agapanthas sometimes attract hummingbirds, and fortunately I had the camera with 500mm lens set on a tripod close at hand when this little guy did his flybys.

ETA (12-09) Oh, if I knew then what I know today about cameras...

This was a long time ago in digital camera years. It's a very nice shot, and you were fortunate to be there with the right equipment to get the one time event. The shallow DOF works to bring out the bird from the BG.

Nice capture. The balance feels off here. I want to push the frame up about 2 inches. The colors of the flowers work good against the background, but the bird blends in a little too well. It's also a tad soft.
