 There are actually nine appendages... He (she?) has two front legs pulled up to the chest.

See them? Those orange furry looking things just below the chin?

I'm not sure if folks will DNMC me on this, but I actually went out (after trying to get seven on one bush) to capture seven appendages on a butterfly since I saw them all around one bush. And I did it.

So, I'm happy. :)

To me... every time I look at it... it SCREAMS long, thin appendages.

Isn't it funny how we see things?

Great shot Lydia, but maybe the wrong challenge for this little butterfly - I guess the voters didn't think the "appendages" were 7 of the same thing! :-D

Bit of a stretch for the challenge but I'll go with it; perfect DOF for the appendages in question, and happily the butterfly's eye falls into the focal plane.

Great shot ! However, I'm not sure how it meets the challenge, as 7 identical things were supposed to be the main subject...

This image is very nice. Especially the butterflies eyes and its general color is very interesting.
However, I do think that for the challenge it is somewhat of a stretch. I would never have gotten it without the title, and at least to me legs, tongues, antennas are distinctly different things.
I am going to give this a 6 for image quality.
