I wanted to illustrate to some of those who commented about the composition. I went to a lot of effort to get this shot even with disregard to my own safety actually.
It is very difficult to get a good shot of this concrete plant because it is situated on the banks of a canal and the only way to get a shot is to cross a two lane highway on foot (illegal activity) and in the process you have to skirt 4 rows of metal crash barriers to get to the opposite bank. There is only one spot from which to take a half decent shot once you reach the other side because the entire opposite bank is covered by high reeds growing on a steep slope right down to the waters edge. I managed to find just one spot where there was a bit of a clearing from which I could get an unobstructed view. So in the circumstances I got the best composition possible. If I had a boat I would have been able to do better. As it is the area around where I live does not offer much in the way of exciting wow compositions and scenery so I find I really have to hunt down and chase even what most others would consider mundane and boring places to capture anything for entering on DPC.
Here is a google map of the place where I took this photo. Just to illustrate the difficulty and restrictions I had to overcome. The black arrow shows the spot from where I took the photo. You can see the 2 lane highway I had to cross negotiating heavy late afternoon rush hour traffic. You can also see the sweep of view I had from there to get the shot. I illustrated this sweep with a triangular line.

Just some honest feedback on an otherwise well-executed photo.

Overall, the image feels a tad over-exposed. I'm seeing almost no areas of black and the sky is a bit too light.

Composition is a bit weak. The crane, which I assume is the center of focus is dead center in the photo. Not a strong position for it. Dynamic balance of the photo (think balancing a scale) would be much better with the photo cut off right behind the barge.

It may be a tad on the over-sharpened side.

I was one of your 22 fours. I've seen your forum post so perhaps I should explain why I scored it quite low.

Mainly I score high for images rich in story, often I'll score high for images that are wall hangingly beautiful and sometimes I'll score high because of fabulous execution.

For me, your image doesn't fall into any of these categories. Of course I can see it is competent but I get no sense of rationale from it - it doesn't convince me that this was a scene that fascinated you.

The subject isn't the most enthralling and the processing is harsh, over sharp - especially at the centre and the whole image is bright and hard on the eyes - there is nothing here that makes the eye want to wander and explore - all mystery and ambiguity has been obliterated, every detail revealed as if illuminated by its own spotlight.

For me, a visual representation as to why more is sometimes less.

I hope you don't mind the comment; it is offered in the spirit of transparency.
