Photographer’s Notes I just attended my 3rd Photoshop World conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. As usual, it was a hoot. It is an eclectic group of artistic folks who are completely unbalanced when it comes to cameras, gear, software, and the process of making images using all the above. They are a friendly group – easy to strike up a conversation with – and numbering 5,000 folks, an opportunity to learn a lot and have a lot of fun!
And as they say, “What happens IN Vegas gets Photoshopped OUT in Vegas.” Well maybe they only say that during Photoshop World.
On the tradeshow floor, they had a number of “model stations” with professional models, costumed, and professionally lit. It was an opportunity to learn how to work with models, with lights, and practice the things you learned. FUN. This is a shot of one of the models.
About the title: I so wanted to title this “Puss & Boots.” And I may yet. My working title is “These Boots Will Walk All Over You!” A reference to the old Nancy Sinatra song “These Boots Are Made For Walkin.” An old song – and I guess she’s old now, too. Recognizing my geezer status around here, you youngin’s might enjoy the lyrics:
You keep saying you've got something for me.
something you call love, but confess.
You've been a messin' where you shouldn't have been a messin'
and now someone else is gettin' all your best.
These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do
one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.
You keep lying, when you oughta be truthin'
and you keep losin' when you oughta not bet.
You keep samin' when you oughta be a changin'.
Now what's right is right, but you ain't been right yet.
These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do
one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.
You keep playin' where you shouldn't be a playin
and you keep thinkin' that you´ll never get burnt.
Ha!
I just found me a brand new box of matches yeah
and what he knows you ain't HAD time to learn.
These boots are made for walking, and that's just what they'll do
one of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you.
Are you ready boots? Start walkin'!
See and hear her sing it on the Ed Sullivan Show here.

Overall, I find this a very pleasing image. Clearly you know the rules of composition and when they can usefully be broken, ad I disagree with the 'missing foot' comment - this photo is all about shock effect to me, bright, bold and fractionally unconventional.
Technically: There really isn't anything to say - Focus and DOF are both spot on, as is the lighting (although you point out that this was professionally arranged).
Artistically: You have managed to arrange about every key focal point to be on a 'thirds' intersection, which I find very visually pleasing. The strong colours are a choice and I think that they work well here, contrasting with the skin and striped top. Yes, you have chopped off a foot, but as I said, that's not a problem for me.
In summary, I don't think that there is anything in this photo that I would change if I were lucky enough to have been in the position to take it, so congratulations on a really nice job!
What a fun image! Great wardrobe, and the flock wall is a wonderful detail. Oddly, I'm ok with the upper body crop, but somehow the missing foot is disturbing. And surely, with so much attention to detail, you could have found a more interesting footrest? Nice, vibrant colors, but not a fan of the desat. I honestly don't think this image needed it.
Actually there was no desat. The model's skin (whether through makeup or natural) was white as were her leggings. But I truly appreciate your thoughtful comment.
