Hi Kat, welcome back to the Critique Zone!

This is a very interesting shot - I think it was probably really close to scoring a full point higher because the concept was great and really appeals to what little artistic side I have! So why didn't it? I'm going to have a guess (ignoring the option of stupid troll voters!) at DOF and the 'thing' top left.

Technically: You may have been going for a lot of OOF stuff, certainly with a 100mm Macro at f3.5 you were going to get it! Judging by your high ISO, I'm guessing that the aperture was more due to you wanting to hand hold this? I probably wouldn't have gone that way - lower ISO, aperture of at least f8, more like f11 and a tripod for me. That would have got most of the tips down to the definition of those very interesting polygons in focus I reckon. The natural light is nice, but since it looks pretty white anyway, perhaps a little flash could have helped with the shutter speed?

Artistically: As I said last time, this is my opinion and worth what you paid for it! The composition is very strong, and the complimentary colours are excellent - they really grapped my attention. The only negative for me is the diagonal line and 'stuff' in the top left hand side - without it, the shot is deceptively simple, almost abstract, but it really distracts my eye from enjoying the symettry of everything else. Of course I don't know if there is any way you could have avoided it or left it out.

In summary, this is a really nice concept, which must have been really close to doing a lot better on the scores - it is definitely not 'average'.

Lovely! The spikes look like they are reaching out to become part of the painting effect on the right.
