this morning my daughter ali came to say goodbye to our old dog sasha ..
sasha was nearly 18 years old & ali was four years old when we got her as a 6wk old puppy .. so sasha has been around for nearly all of ali's life .. she was the best dog with the most gentle personality .. she used to come everywhere with me & when i went to the shops she'd wait outside without being tied up ..
yesterday she deteriorated so much that she could no longer walk unaided and i made the very difficult decision to take her to the vet today ..
i firmly believe that she is in a much happier place now ..

Sorry to hear that Roz, what a lovely "family" image though

Aawww! Roz, I'm so sorry. This made me tear up. I went through the same thing a year ago with my pug. He was around 18 as well. All I can say is I'm sure she lived the most happiest of lives with your and your family.

So sorry to hear that Roz. I know how difficult that is having been through that myself. Sometimes losing a pet is even more difficult that losing a human member of the family. It's that unconditional attachment.

My most sincere sympathies.

Sorry to hear of the (inevitable) passing, Roz. The image, however, is memorable. There is an almost awful poignance in Katee's pose, the placement of her paw *just so*, and a determined resignation in Sasha's affect. That Ali is in shadow, and wearing shades, that she is merging into the background of this scene, speaks it all.

This is a hard day Roz, and it is coming soon for one of my dogs, a loving black lab that has been with our family for about 14 years.
Hugs for you.

I like how the dogs are lit up and she's in shadow. I comment before reading the "story."

Oh Roz!!!! I had to do the same thing with my beloved Summer a year ago. Dogs are so stoic and we always know when it's time to let them go. I hope Ali is able to rejoice in her wonderful memories of Sasha. I'll be thinking of her today. I picture Sasha frolicking in a field with my Summer and Crockett, on some parallel plane. Maybe my Dad is sitting in a recliner, with a hand dangling over the side to pet them as they brush by. I know they arer happy to be pain free and feeling like puppies again.
