This challenge was really nice, as it got me thinking about all the things chalk is used for. Gave me ideas to shoot for in different situations. In the end, I went with this shot, which actually didn't use chalk at all!
Setup for this shot included my camera on a tripod, and my 430ex II with homemade snoot pointing from the left. I got focus with the lights on, and turned them off for the shot. With the camera on a 2 second timer, I hit the shutter (yes, it got full of powder), grabbed some flour from the bowl, and slapped my hands together. After a number of shots, I finally got one that worked out well.
I hope this does well, although I think the lack of extreme sharpness (hard to get at 1/250 s with moving hands) will hurt a bit.

I liked this one a lot, one of my few faves, gave you a 9. I never knew you can use to focus with the lights on and then turn off the lights :)) I'm gonna have to try that, thanks for the idea :) |
