These are wild elk....they were in a farmers front pasture... At one time the elk in Arkansas disappeared and were reintroduced several years ago. During mating season you can see a lot of the elk in pastures along the hwy. The game and fish commission and farmers do create these feed lots of cut hay for the elk, but they are free and wild.

Great shot. They appear to be posing, or at least not that into it, as they don't have aggressive stances. Considering this is as close as I've ever gotten to one, let alone two, maybe I've got it all wrong. Wonderful focal depth, sharp where it needs it. Excellent work.

While they are wild animals judging by the high fence in the background I am thinking they are wild but not free.

Obviously a good moment caught here, but they are clearly standing in loose hay and the fence is visible. Supposed to be "non-domesticated... living in a natural environment."
