 This is a banded water snake, discovered . by my dogs about 10 yds from where I was grilling dinner. When I went to see what the rucus was all about, the snake was already mortally wounded.
It was at dusk, so it was a challenge to get a decent shot. This was hand-held with a 200mm lens. At 1/15th of a second, I was pleased at the clarity I accomplished

Its the 2nd large snake they have killed in the last 2 weeks. Its really unfortunate, as both were non-venomous (the other was a large garter snake). We have a pet California King, so we aren't anti-snake at all. If we could only convince the dogs....

i hate ssssnakes.... they give me the heebie jeebies... but this is a fantastic photo. the detail is tremendous! 9
