Boy Scout retirement of national flags having served their patriotic purpose.

United States Flag Retirement Ceremony

lens focal length 73mm.

For those who don't "get" the military angle of this patriotism, that is very sad. The symbolism and ceremony mean a lot. What did you want me to photograph.... a WWII tank or howitzer? While the weapons of war are obviously military, they don't carry the patriotic symbolism of a national flag.

So 22 people gave this a 3, 2, or 1. Clearly there are 22 trolls that have no idea what this ceremony actually is, and voted without thinking. I didn't vote in this, but I still really like this photo. Good job!

I am so glad that the flag is honored in such a way. I mean they could just throw them in the trash and be done with it. I think it shows respect for those who gave all for this great country.

Nice job with handleing the flames, love the light on the flag and the demeanor of the young man!

This might of course upset a few patriots. However my guess is that it is a Scouts ritual?
