 I wasn't supposed to enter in this challenge when i suggested it as i was more interested in seeing the works of others who are more knowledgeable on the subject, but after seeing the low turnout of entries, i felt obliged to submit my own.

This is a photo of my wife when we had a family day last friday. It was taken just outside the dining halls of Palawan Beach, Sentosa in Singapore.

I was aiming to capture a portrait of her by the beach, with the lights of the ships harboured on the bay as her background, but i was never able to perfectly match the exposure time with my off-shoe flash, and all i got was a nicely exposed subject, with very dark background. In the end, i settled for this shot.

Cute photo. The straight on catchlights in the eyes are a bit distracting. Maybe use of some diffusion of reflection of the flash could help out.

Some (better) fill flash would have helped. The blown out lights are a distraction.
