I like the shallow focus, but I think that maybe either could be just a bit deeper. The colours are beautiful, makes this very appetizing. |

Thanks for all the great comments so far! I too wish I could have more in focus. I took the best of 5 shots and then had to eat it to get to work on time:) If I had more time I may have had something a little better. Maybe the next one... |

Mmm, looks yum. That roast beef looks rare and tender, just the way I like it. |

Very good. Wasabe! yum! Read the comments & my suggestion would be to add one thing, a garnish w/some texture/detail, or a glass of beer, something to take the sharp focus so I could stop looking for it. Right now the focus is on the bread crust. Presentation is everything, as they say. I'd rather focus on the wonderful taste of the first bite! |

Good plan with the mini-themes - that gives you a great deal of freedom to do what you want, and improvise along the way. Excellent use of shallow DOF here! |

I love pumpernickel. I'm one of those nerds who doesn't like roast or prime rib as rare as most. The narrow DOF just drifts our eye to the side dish in the back. Can I come eat with you? :) |

Not a good idea to look at food pics when you are hungry. Lovely depth of field. |

Good job on food photography, a very difficult topic. I hope you don't mind, but a nitpick I have is that although I like the chips blurred into a mass of yellow, I'd like to see the sandwich a bit more in focus. I don't think the whole thing needs to be sharp, but I think that a few more cm of focus would help this. |

Your making me hungry. I have to disagree with Guruinn though, I like the shallow DOF. All of the food magazines and books I have do an excellent job of photographing the food, and the best ones have ultra shallow DOF. |

Maybe with the whole of the sandwich in focus this would be better? I don't know, I just wanted to throw the idea out there.
But it is a very enticing photo. |

Looks delicious! Nice PoV and DoF. The roast beef (yummy) is very dark in the front, could use a little bit more light. |
