We have just come out of an unusually wet (soggy, sopping, muddy, drippy, pouring-down) autumn. The two weeks around Christmas and New Year's were the wettest in my memory, having lived in this place my entire life. The mud was insane. We forgot what the sun looked like. After the New Year, the weather finally broke and we had five or so days that were clear and blue and dry and crisp -- which is much more what we're used to in terms of California "winter". :) This is our little woods* when I was out for a walk on Thursday.

*Those who remember me from when I was active here before (probably... nobody? I am not very memorable) might remember the 50-day square-crop project from 2007. I took this photo during that challenge:

These are the woods below that house. Whenever I see that picture in my screensaver or elsewhere, it reminds me of how very much we wanted to live here and how glad I am that we do. :)

LOL. I remember the 2007 square crop challenge. I think it was the first (and one of the best) I ever entered. I thought I recognized your thumbnail.

Re: This shot, I love the clouds -- a real feeling of exultation! I might crop out the shadowy ground and just go for the clouds.

Great blues and greens. I find the branch at the top right distracting I would crop it out.

I think the image explains the story, but if I didn't have the story, I would've loved to see more sky and treetops.

West, at about 2300 feet in elevation. Generally speaking, there isn't lasting snow in the 140 corridor (140 is the highway that takes you directly into Yosemite Valley without going up and over in one direction or another) until you get into the Valley itself -- and even there, there are frequently periods in the winter when the snow is patchy at best. You have to get up above 5000 feet or so to have steady snow all winter, generally speaking. The Valley floor is at about 4000.

Blue sky in the winter is always a good thing. Our sky has been mostly snow clouds the past few weeks, and I'm ready for some blue.

I thought this looked very Californian when I first saw it. It's always great when you can get clouds in your shot!

Yes we have had a lot of rain this year (northern California) and I am happy to see your blue sky. It is dark and dreary here.
